MKVToolNix for MAC
Free, open-source tools for Mac to create, alter and inspect Matroska (MKV) files, with a graphical app for multiplexing and chapter editing.
MKVToolNix Overview
MKVToolNix is a free, open-source set of tools to create, alter and inspect Matroska (MKV) files. The MKVToolNix GUI brings them together in a graphical app with a multiplexer and a chapter editor. Under it, mkvmerge joins the streams of several media files into one Matroska file, mkvinfo shows what a file contains, mkvextract pulls parts out of a file into other useful formats, and mkvpropedit changes the properties of an existing file without a complete remux. mkvmerge can also create WebM files and read CUE sheets as the input for chapters.
MKVToolNix is developed by Moritz Bunkus and released under the GPL-2.0 licence. The Mac builds come from the community: since version 98 the DMGs on the official site are built by Graham Thompson, and support for them is offered through the project's forum and issue tracker. They need macOS 13 Ventura or later and are offered for Apple Silicon and Intel, plus a Universal DMG of about 46.6 MB. Version 103.0 fixes invisible check boxes on macOS 27 and adds new actions to the multiplexer.
